Water Lilies and Koi

Oh, my! What a beautiful composition is created with this textured background and some strategically placed water lily blossoms to give a pop of color. Strong contrast is always the key to making things so very dimensional. Cathy’s paintings are noted for their great colors.

A few koi gracefully float about creating a relaxing and serene scene. Concentric circle and bubbles enhance the feeling of water. Cathy’s demo piece uses a small bit of resin in the center depression of the plate to make the underwater feel look so real. Painters may want to give resin a try at home or substitute the product Triple Thick. With or without the thick, shiny layer added to the center – the plate will make a beautiful display. Check out the tiny frogs that add to the fun of this painting.

Show-and-Tell is the most amazing time as members share ideas, products, and techniques. Everyone is encouraged to share their art and the result is our painter’s skills grow by leaps and bounds. Teachers show their upcoming classes. Thank you to all who participate.

Cathy’s program was rigorous but with all her hours preparing teaching aids and instructions ahead of time she got us through it. EVERYONE completed painting Koi under water. Some of us have homework to finish the border but we have the know-how to do it! Thank you Cathy Ressler for your extraordinary efforts – you did a great job!

The ‘Behind-the-Scenes’ story is that Cathy rearranged her life and taught the Koi a month ahead of schedule to help out when the scheduled program teacher was unable to teach. DASF has the most wonderful members. There are none better… Thank you SO much, Cathy!

Our painting year is quickly coming to a close. Artist’s projects are due at the September meeting for the much anticipated 2025 Catalog. Each artist is allowed a maximum of three (3) entries. There is a firm deadline of the September meeting (Sept 14, 2024) to give your art projects to Madonna Williams. Don’t miss out.
