ILLEGAL TO PICK UP FEATHERS!
These chattering and aggressive blue birds range from Canada to Florida. Feathers are beautiful, appearing with lavender, mid-blue, sky blue, white and black. Black patterns on the face and neck vary widely helping individuals recognize each other.
The position of the crest that varies from flat to fully raised to bristling outwards can tell a lot about the birds mood. Jays face a variety of predators including hawks that find them easy prey due to their slow flying habits. Squirrels, cats, crows, and raccoons are threats to jays while eating or nesting in trees. It is illegal to pick up a Blue Jay feather! …Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918

March 2026 Program
The Assateague Light program was relaxing and most successful as Gerri led us to paint without the usual pattern where it is necessary to stay inside of the lines. Active in art education for over three decades, Gerri is a fine artist who actively volunteers at various Galleries around the Fort Myers area. Members were most appreciative of Gerri’s skill as a teacher as she led us through this design by Ros Stallcup. Enjoy the photos of our show-and-tells and of members as they enjoyed another great DASF program…
Thank you, Gerri!
RESOLVED! I will paint every monthly program to build my painting skills!
What a wonderful way to build your painting skills. With a group of excellent teachers leading members through a different program every month, follow the New Year’s resolution and you will be a much better painter with a group of great painting friends. Bring a friend and we promise to make them feel welcome. Guests are always welcome!
The DEDICATED ARTISTS and Who we Are
. . .Read on to learn about us, our programs, and our seminars . . .
The DEDICATED Artists of Southwest Florida Inc (DASF) is a vibrant local club with residents from the tri-county area ranging from Port Charlotte to Naples, the East Coast of Florida and Ontario, Canada, too. Snowbirds flocking south to enjoy winter sunshine love our engaging programs. Art and painting programs including acrylics, watercolor, pastels, colored pencils and multi-media are all about having fun while making friends and supporting each other. Small “Mini-Seminars” are the real treasure where small groups learn together and dine together, getting to really know each other and cement friendships. We welcome all ages and all levels of abilities from those with no experience to the accomplished artist!
While art is our central focus, DASF – being a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit – also champions a wide range of philanthropic efforts including the Harry Chapin Food Bank and a $1,000 annual scholarship to a Lee County high school senior planning to pursue a career in the visual arts. Our Memory Box program donates hand-painted boxes to hospitals for grieving families to hold keepsakes of a lost child. Winter Luncheon, out fundraising gala, is held at a local country club to fund all we do. A silent auction features members’ beautiful artwork and a very special work of art is auctioned “live.” Themed gift baskets and a boutique of smaller, inexpensive hand-painted treasures is always a fun place to find stocking stuffers and real treasures.
It truly is a Circle of Art! Members invite their friends, family and associates to paint and so the membership grows – capped at 70 due to space limitations. Individualism is encouraged as the joy of creation fans enthusiasm and skills grow stroke by stroke. Members engage in mentoring, teaching, and donating their paintings.
Meetings in 2026 will offer a great variety of designs. Visit us at a general meeting as a guest. We welcome you to attend two meetings before you will want to join. We meet the second Saturday of every month. Dues are only $50 per year and new member dues discounted to $45 – Monthly meetings always include a great painting project by one of our talented instructors who, with the club, collaborate to provide supplies and a surface for your painting project. You will even be treated to lunch at Special Member Appreciation meetings twice a year. See the Meetings Menu above for what is being offered for 2026. Program descriptions can be found there.
Meetings begin with a Social Time and light refreshments at 9:00am followed by the meeting at 9:30am. Each meeting is followed by a brown bag lunch and a painting program.
PLEASE: Find a map to the meeting near the top of each program page. Click on the word “map” and you will be directed to the Cape Coral Art League.
