These chattering and aggressive blue birds range from Canada to Florida. Feathers are beautiful, appearing with lavender, mid-blue, sky blue, white and black. Black patterns on the face and neck vary widely helping individuals recognize each other.

Jays face a variety of predators including hawks that find them easy prey due to their slow flying habits. Squirrels, cats, crows, and raccoons are threats to jays while eating or nesting in trees.
