Permalba Professional Oils (palette pre-orders will be taken until Dec 15th for $12/day  …this is optional)

The advantage of purchasing the palette is it allows students to be using the same colors as Dorothy, and to get the same mixes as she does. It also might be more convenient for some students than trying to find the paints locally.

Optional Prep…
Dorothy applied white gesso over the whole surface of the canvas using a palette knife, just to give some texture to the finished piece. It’s actually rather rough looking, but does lend a nice feel to the painting. It needs to dry overnight before transferring the poppy pattern.

Canvas Prep…
Tone canvas with thinned BU – just dab a little BU on the canvas here and there, dampen a paper towel with a little turp, and then spread the BU over the surface. Wipe off excess – this doesn’t have to be an even coat, or very dark – some areas can be darker than others. Work for something close to the color of a brown paper bag. Let dry, then transfer pattern. Students can prep their canvas for this Saturday Class during lunch or after class on Friday, if they need to…
