Valerie TRAPP
Life for Valerie started in a small rural community with mom, dad, a younger brother and her church family. Church still remains an important part of her life. She played in the church yard, rode her bicycle, fished in her grandfather’s pond and loved vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School was an opportunity for mom and grandma to teach and provide cookies to engage the young souls of neighborhood kids. They left their print on Valerie!
Home for Valerie was horse country …Kentucky. Outdoor dogs, young calves in need of bottle feeding, horses — lots of horses — sketching horses and coloring books got her started. If there was an art contest from magazine ads, Valerie would grab the opportunity to draw owls, dogs and cats. She thought they were never ‘realistic’ enough. Now she believes that art can be expressive and comes from the heart.
As a kid, the Bookmobile was well acquainted with the young girl who always had her nose in a book. It is not surprising that Valerie chose to be an educator and holds degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. While she thinks of herself as a teacher, artistic skills and leadership is part of teaching, too. College brought formal training in art, music and singing. As a highschooler, she had soloed in the All American Choir and had an unforgettable experience performing in an outdoor theater.
Visual arts teaching experiences ranged from high school through a preschool she owned! She loved teaching and Valerie loves color! From the fresh green and flowers of spring to the beautiful Kentucky falls and colorful trees. Now, with time to devote to art, she loves creating. Her art style is best described as abstract and non-objective. Family appreciates her art and Valerie appreciates our club where she gets to learn so much! She has worked in Pebeo Oils, Flower Pounding, Watercolors, Acrylics, Zentangles and more…
