Member Appreciation,  Sunflower Contest and Award Presentation

‘MEET’ our Founder
with a special Memory Board about Joyce Kostelak and see some artwork she influenced giving us our start as Pelican Painters many decades ago. She took her paint brushes to heaven recently.
Say ‘HELLO’ to our Honorary Members
two special ladies will be with us enjoying everything ‘sunflowers’ on this special appreciation day. Meet Edith Payne and if you click HERE you can hear Fran Poppel talk about her growing years on Pine Island.

Only in Paradise
Van Gogh’s paintings of Sunflowers are among his most famous paintings. This happy painting may be one of your favorites, too. Sunflowers communicate ‘gratitude’. And DASF members will be grateful for the opportunity to paint with Beth. She is prolific and talented.

Note the complex background Beth creates with layers to add interest to the design. This could also be painted on a charger plate. This seminar features a custom sized matboard so you can extend your painting onto the matboard. Your creativity will be unleashed allowing each and every painter to complete a unique painting… Plan to have fun!!

The finished painting will fit into a standard 9 x 11 frame. Member appreciation will be the program theme featuring a dress up contest, a fun painting, and a delicious lunch. You will enjoy your day…

Win one of three $15 GIFT CARDs! “Sunflower Wearables” Contest winners will be judged as

  • Most Beautiful
  • Most Colorful
  • Most Creative

“Wearables” might be hat, apron, collar, corsage, skirt, shoes, tattoos… Be imaginative!
Please, one entry per member…

February PHOTO Gallery
Amazing! Attendance was high for the most fabulous program of 2025. The color of sunshine was seen everywhere as DASF celebrated the sunflower with handpainted centerpiece vases filled with live sunflowers, a contest with members wearing their painted sunflower art, sunflower placemats and BEST-OF-ALL …the painting program with travel teacher Beth Wagner’s sunflower collage design. We all had a smashing time with paintings as diverse as the personalities of those who painted them. It was FUN. And we also enjoyed a variety of box lunches…

A ‘NOD’ to our Founder
Started as the “Pelican Painters” five decades ago, DASF learned of the passing of our founder JOYCE KOSTELAK in November 2024. She was most talented and is the reason so many painters and those learning to paint through the years have had so much fun. She truly was an “Angel Among Us” which makes the recent Winter Luncheon theme even more meaningful. May she rest in peace as she and her paint brush make heaven a more beautiful place.
